What do you learn from your plants? A lot more than expected! Patience, understanding, nature knowledge, tastes that you didn’t know - to only name a few. That’s what makes growing plants at home so interesting and worth any effort. It might not work perfectly from the very beginning. Every plant has its own unique set of needs when it comes to humidity, temperature, light, and soil. Let’s have a closer look at what this means.
Every plant needs light. Remember your biology classes and how plants use light to turn carbon dioxide into sugars? In other words: light is like food for your plants, fuels their metabolism, and is the main source of their energy. More light - more growth. Whether your plant originated from a sunlight-flooded or a shaded habitat is important to keep in mind when choosing the perfect spot for your plant.
Even the most shadow-loving plant won’t thrive in a gloomy room or even a room without any windows. But they should also be kept out of direct sunlight as this may cause sunburn.
If you struggle to find a good spot for your plants to grow because you live in a city, in a flat that is not flooded with light or miss a south window, we can help you with our Starter Set that includes the Yard Sunlight. This replicates the visible sunlight spectrum and can be adjusted to every plants’ individual needs in terms of day-night cycle and light intensity. It is the perfect way to enter the huge and exciting world of Home Farming.
Water is life. As a rule of thumb, your plants like to be watered on a regular schedule, but too much water doesn’t make them happy. Keep an eye on the soil and wait until the top layer feels dry before watering your plants again. Nutrients and water are absorbed by the roots and essential for the plants’ growth and health.
In the Starter Kit, you find Seed Plugs that are ready to grow and contain enough nutrients for the beginning. The plugs should be soaked thoroughly to start growing and water should be added when they start to feel dry. The color of the plug material is a good indicator for moisture too. What’s cool about our Seed Plugs? Their texture promotes seed germination and regulates the moisture level to make it easier to make your plant happy.
Plants do not like the cold. Especially during wintertime, temperatures outside are not helping us to be successful Home Farmers. Temperature is less of a problem inside the apartment, but keep in mind that plants do not like to be placed next to a heat source, such as a radiator either!
Your plant needs enough space to develop roots and to thrive. Give your plants time to grow and enjoy watching them become a delicious green that you can eventually enjoy. So tasty!
